Are you a state employee considering retirement?
Your retirement earnings depend partially on the amount of service credit posted to your account at the time of retirement. As an active member of the retirement system who has contributed to the retirement system within two (2) years of your purchase request and has not retired or withdrawn contributions, you may be eligible to purchase additional service credit.
Some of the types of service credits offered for purchasing involve: Probationary service, Temporary Service, Leave of Absence Without Pay (this includes maternity leave and child care leave) , Out -of-State Service and Military Service.
The NJ Department of the Treasury / Division of Pensions and Benefits has provided various fact sheets which contain information on the requirements for eligibility as well as the processing procedures for purchasing service credits.
For more information visit the website http://www.nj.gov/treasury/pensions or http://www.nj.gov/treasury/pensions/purchase-service.shtml and search for the link to “Purchase of Service Credit.”
