A Message from the President:

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

As we are rounding out my second term, I would like to reflect upon some of your accomplishments.  I say “your” accomplishments because a union wouldn’t be a union without courageous men and women in the workforce dedicated to the idea that equal rights and opportunities along with proper working conditions are worth fighting for.

We have transcended our initial goals of organizing the Local, revising our by-laws, and improving our communication systems. We then moved toward new and improved technology that would allow us to creatively perform our jobs and produce a more cost efficient product.

Now we are exploring and implementing inventive strategies to    lead our members to victory in a decidedly imbalanced system of due process. All of our strategies involve bringing our members together.  We must channel our energies to support one another for important causes both now and for the future of our families.  It’s counterproductive to point fingers at one another or your union.  We are here to help you.  We are here to serve you.  We are on the same side.

I have spent a great deal of time during my tenure as President advocating, along with our national union, for members, both individually and collectively, with high ranking administrations.  Having established a reputation of determination coupled with making inroads by building long term relationships, I can now turn to spending more time with you. Expect to see me accompany your reps to worksites and various meetings so we can continue to build and strengthen our Local in order to foster the trust needed to carry out our mission which is to work in a world free of discrimination, intimidation, and problems in order to experience and enjoy the respect you deserve.

In Unity,

Tom Palermo, President

Attention 1039 Members

It has been brought to my attention that many of our members are not aware of Permanent Disability. Pension refers to it as Ordinary Retirement.

If you are vested 10 years in the pension system and are under a doctors care because of any ailment, please contact me at 609-394-9151. There is no need to worry about having any benefits if you can't work any longer.

The procedure is simple, merely have your doctor, two if possible, explain the ailments and agree that you should retire because of disability. That's all that is required.

In Unity and Strength,

Tom Palermo, President
